(FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

(Communication is the foundation of the artist/client relationship, please bring any questions/concerns/ideas you may have up with your artist at any point throughout the process.)

DO YOU DO PIERCINGS?

No.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A TATTOO?

You must be at least 18 years of age. We do not tattoo minors, no exceptions.

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

Once you’ve selected your preferred artist, you can either stop by the shop (hours vary), or (our preference) send a detailed email with a description of the design, some photo reference, and your preferred dates to schedule, hinterlandtattoos@gmail.com. This will enable us to process your request quickly and efficiently. We schedule appointments a maximum of three months in advance.

DO Y’ALL TAKE WALK-INS?

Generally our resident artists book in advance, by appointment. The term “walk-in” means you don’t need an appointment. Walk-ins, when available, will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis with cancellation availability permitting. It’s always worth checking in by emailing, calling or stopping by. We will always do our best to accommodate your request.

HOW MUCH DOES A TATTOO COST?

We have a shop minimum of $125. We charge $150 dollars per hour. Final price is dependent on size, detail of the design, location on the body where it will be placed. Ultimately the final price is based on the time it takes to preform the tattoo.

HOW CAN I GET A PRICE QUOTE?

The best way to get an accurate price range is by booking a (free!) consultation with the artist—if not in person, then through a brief detailed email. In order for us to quote your idea, we need to consider the subject, size, placement on the body, detail, etc. We’re always more than happy to help get you the information you need.

DO I NEED TO LEAVE A DEPOSIT?

When we are asked to create custom drawings for your tattoo we take a $50 deposit. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable and will be applied to the final price of your tattoo. A deposit is not required for pre-drawn flash designs.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TATTOO?

We recommend that you eat well before you come in, and remember to stay hydrated. Bring snacks for longer tattoos. If you start to feel woozy, have some fruit, chocolate or a shot of maple syrup. Sugar is your friend in this situation. It’s best not to party the night before because alcohol thins the blood and can increase bleeding for up to 24 hours. Excess blood can dilute our pigments, affecting both the appearance of your tattoo as well as the healing process. We recommend no drugs and alcohol within 24 hours of being tattooed.

CAN I BRING ALL MY FRIENDS, MY CHILDREN AND MY PETS?

We ask that you bring no more than one support person with you to your appointment. We recommend that you attempt to find childcare the day of your appointment. Pets are not allowed. Service animals are always welcome. Tattooing and being tattooed takes an immense amount of focus, these policies have been put in place to keep the focus on you and your new tattoo.

DOES IT HURT?

Yes! But in the best possible way. Your brain releases endorphins when you go through pain and your body loves endorphins, so yes, it hurts, but you’ll kinda like it.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?

We accept CASH and Venmo.

WHAT ABOUT TIPPING?

It's common practice to tip your tattoo artist. A good tip is 15-20%, just like a restaurant, but any token of appreciation is welcome.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY NEW TATTOO?

Every shop has their own recommended care methods. You will be given aftercare instructions after you’ve been tattooed. You can also find our aftercare instructions on this website.

HOW LONG DOES A TATTOO TAKE TO HEAL?

It takes two weeks to “heal,” but it can take months for the skin to fully regenerate.

DO YOU OFFER TOUCH-UPS?

Yes. We offer free touch-ups within 6 months of receiving a new tattoo. Please be in touch after your tattoo is fully healed if any lines or fill needs revisiting. We want to be sure you're happy and your tattoo is looking great.
