Hinterland tattoo

Rose was born in the wild foothills of the Sierra Nevada's. Betwixt tall pine trees and golden meadows. Being a lifelong artist she always wanted to become a tattoo artist, and now is taking the plunge into an apprenticeship at Hinterland Studios - studying under shop owner Evan Book.

My work moves between the mythic and the raw — a space where the beautiful and the brutal coexist. As a painter and illustrator, I’m drawn to the tension between wonder and pain, using color, form, and story to explore what we often keep hidden. Some pieces feel like fragments of a dream; others carry the pulse of something darker, closer to the bone.

Creating, for me, is an act of permission— a way to stretch the imagination beyond what society allows us to say out loud. I’m interested in images that haunt and heal at the same time, that make room for discomfort as well as curiosity.

As I move into the world of tattooing, I’m learning how art can live on skin — how it can travel with someone, become part of their own myth. My goal is to keep making work that feels alive, that invites people to see their own stories reflected in the strange, the sacred, and the unseen.
